Environment
The Structure Plan has been jointly prepared with Derby City Council. It covers the whole of Derbyshire, outside the Peak District National Park, and the City of Derby.
The Structure Plan contains general policies and proposals of strategic importance for the development and use of land in the area.
It is expected that when the Planning and Compensation Bill is enacted, structure plans will be abolished and replaced by Regional Spatial Strategies prepared by regional assemblies with the help of local councils.
Derby and Derbyshire Joint Structure Plan
The current plan was adopted on 31 January 2001 and extends to 2011.
Based upon the principles of sustainable development, the general strategy of the plan attaches particular importance to promoting the development of the economy of the plan area, maintaining the valued features of Derbyshire's environment and social problems, particularly to assist disadvantaged groups and disadvantaged areas.
District councils are preparing their local plan reviews in the context of the adopted structure plan.
