Flood warnings

We closely monitors all flood alerts and flood warnings issued by the Environment Agency in relation to our rivers and the communities that could be affected by flooding from them.

In addition to these we receive severe weather warnings (opens in a new window) from the Met Office and more detailed extreme rainfall alerts and flood guidance statements from the Flood Forecasting Centre (opens in a new window), which is a joint operation between the Environment Agency and Met Office.

The combination of alerts, warnings and forecasts helps us to be better prepared for flood emergencies and to take measures that may be able to make flooding less likely in some areas.

Flood warnings (opens in a new window) are available to the public and businesses that are at risk of flooding from a main river, such as the Derwent.
