The emergency services work with us to respond to a flooding emergency.


Derbyshire Contabulary
In an emergency the police force in Derbyshire is responsible for: 

  • Co-ordinate the response of the emergency services. 

  • Establish cordons to facilitate the work of the other services. 

  • Establish access and egress routes for the emergency services. 

  • Process casualty information and identification and removal of the dead. 

  • Undertake any criminal investigation and facilitate inquiries carried out by any other responsible accident investigation body. 

  • Provide help with any evacuation and protection of property.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service
In an emergency the fire and rescue service in Derbyshire is responsible for: 

  • Rescue injured and trapped persons. 

  • Preventing further escalation of the incident by tackling fires, dealing with released chemicals or other hazardous situations. 

  • The safety of all personnel involved in rescue work within the inner cordon. 

  • Consideration of the effects the incident may have on the environment and the action to be taken to minimise this. 

  • Assist the ambulance service with evacuation and casualty handling. 

  • Carry out essential damage control operations. 

  • Participate in investigations as appropriate and prepare reports and evidence for enquiries.  

East Midlands Ambulance Service
In an emergency the ambulance service is responsible for: 

  • Co-ordinate the response of the National Health Service on site. 

  • Provide emergency medical treatment for casualties. 

  • Prioritise the release of trapped persons in liaison with the Fire Service. 

  • Decontamination of casualties (if appropriate). 

  • Transport the injured to the selected hospital(s).
