Wildlife and nature reserves
Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) managed by us include the following:
- Breadsall Cutting Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and LNR (SK 391 398)
- Cromford Canal SSSI and LNR (SK 340 531)
- Pewit Carr LNR (SK 453 419)
- Doe Lea LNR (SK 459 666)
- Rowthorne Trail LNR (SK 482 637)
- Elvaston New Nature Reserve LNR (SK 404 332)
We own a further four that we lease to the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust for management as Nature Reserves, two of which have been designated by the council as Local Nature Reserves. These are listed below:
- Oakerthorpe LNR (SK 390 553)
- Watford Lodge LNR (SK 007 865)
- Mapperley Wood Nature Reserve (SK 439 433)
- Lock Lane Ash Tip Nature Reserve (SK 485 318)

Most Nature Reserves have public access, but permits are required to visit the two geological SSSI in the disused quarries at Calton Hill and Duchy Quarry. For further information please email Derbyshire Countryside Service.
