Support service for special educational needs - our care standards

We have developed 12 care standards, linked to the education service care standards 'Putting People First', which support our work with all our partners.
  1. We will comply with the 'Putting People First' care standards.

  2. We will induct all staff into both council and local care standards.

  3. We will provide teaching and support as outlined in the pupil's statement and communicate all relevant information about this teaching to all partners including parents.

  4. We will work within the framework of the SEN code of practice and maintain and monitor statutory processes through:

    • individual education plans
    • reports for annual reviews
    • attending annual reviews
    • developing challenging targets for pupils with SEN.

  5. We will be aware of the needs of pupils who are children looked after and who have SEN. We will offer support and provide relevant information

  6. We will have effective communication with all partners on transition.

  7. We will work within local (school) care standards for:

    • child protection
    • handling of pupils
    • bullying
    • behaviour policy
    • arrival and departure
    • health and safety.
  8. Our teachers will deliver effective teaching and learning to pupils:

    • By developing, maintaining and monitoring an area of responsibility.
    • By undertaking continuing professional development.
    • By using the performance management process for development.
  9. We will maintain appropriate accountability records, which can be monitored to ensure effective service delivery for example:

    • attendance management
    • diaries
    • travel
    • absent pupils.
  10. We will develop, maintain and monitor a service level agreement with schools for the delivery of School Action Plus.

  11. We will comply with LA guidelines for providing access to services.

  12. We will monitor and evaluate the service and inform key stakeholders on effectiveness.
