Education psychology service principles and values
We work within a context of national legislation and guidelines, professional codes of ethics and conduct, and our council plans and policies.
We also work towards our own service principles and beliefs.
Beliefs:
- An inclusive education system in an inclusive society.
- Learning and behaviour should always be seen as happening within a wider context.
- All children and young people have value and are entitled to fundamental human rights.
- Children and young people are at the heart of what we do and all our work should be for their benefit.
- All children and young people have a right to be successful in living and learning; it is the responsibility of adults to remove the barriers to making this possible.
- Adults in their lives also have value and need support to fulfil their roles.
- The academic discipline of psychology, based on research, will inform our work in helping people achieve their goals for living and learning and evidence based practice.
- Service users need to be involved and participate in decisions that relate to them.
We must practise our beliefs within our own organisation.
Purpose
To apply psychology to promote:
- The psychological development and well-being of children and young people within the context of home, schools, early years settings and community.
- The effectiveness and well-being of adults caring for and working with children and young people.
