Learning outside the classroom at New Mills A range of fieldwork programmes for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are available in the New Mills area linked to the national curriculum for art and design, geography, history, design technology, religious education and science.

These fieldwork days take place in New Mills using the Youth Centre as a base for the day making use of the town's varied built environment, rich industrial heritage and distinctive geographical situation.  All days are fully risk assessed and led by one of our Education Visits Leaders who are qualified teachers.  All worksheets and equipment are provided for the day's activities.

Key Stage 1 programmes

  • Art and Design:  Can Building's Speak

  • Geography and History:  Barnaby Bear discovers New Mills past and present

  • Religious Education:  Visiting a Church

Key Stage 2 programmes

  • Geography: Investigating Rivers

  • Geography: New Mills a Contrasting Locality

  • Design Technology: Bridges design and structure

  • History: Upper Key Stage 2: How did life change in our locality in Victorian times?

  • History: Lower Key Stage 2: What was it like to live here in the past?

  • Science: Habitats.

Day programme charges

Field work days are available in New Mills on Mondays and Thursdays during term time.

Full day programmes taught by Environmental Studies Service staff, £4.25 per pupil.

Discount for bookings taken a term in advance, £4.00 per pupil

Booking fee: Non returnable payment on confirmation of booking, £20.00

Room charge: per day for use of New Mills Youth Centre as a base, £10.74
