Education & learning
We are responsible for the School Organisation Plan and any school reorganisation issues.
We are also responsible with the County Property Division for the Asset Management Plan which contains details of the condition, suitability and sufficiency of all school buildings.
The School Organisation Plan is a contextual document. It draws conclusions about the need to add or to remove school places within Derbyshire.
The plan helps the LEA, schools, parents, local communities and other interested parties to understand the need for school places and to establish future demands.
It provides a basis against which the School Organisation Committee for Derbyshire can consider subsequent proposals for changing the organisation of individual schools. However, the plan itself is not intended to identify individual schools, but, to consider the future need for school places in the various areas of Derbyshire.
Primary Strategy for Change
In 2008 we produced a draft Primary Strategy for Change (please see the related documents section to view or download the Primary Strategy for Change document) in accordance with the Government’s guidelines.
This strategy relates to the Government’s ‘Primary Capital Programme’ initiative.
The Government intends that the Primary Capital Programme will:
Create primary schools equipped for 21st century learning, at the heart of the community, with a range of children’s services in reach of every family.
Deliver a strategic approach to capital investment - supporting national policy aims, delivering world class standards, access to joined-up services for children and families and addressing local needs and priorities.
Rebuild, remodel or refurbish at least half of all primary schools, including rebuilding or taking out of use at least 5 per cent of school buildings in the worst physical condition.
Focus resources on deprivation nationally and in every authority.
Re-configure the primary capital stock to account for demographic change.
