Forest Schools

Forest School website

Forest School is a unique educational process that offers children of all ages opportunity to succeed, develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment.

The Forest School philosophy is to engage and inspire individuals of any age through an ongoing programme of positive experience and participation in achievable tasks and activities in a woodland environment. Forest School is growing locally and nationally and benefits to learning are wide-ranging and include:

  • increased self-esteem and self-confidence
  • improved co-operation, communication skills and awareness of others
  • increased motivation, self-discovery and a positive attitude towards learning
  • a feeling of ownership and pride in the local environment
  • a better understanding of, and a connection to, the outdoors
  • strong practical skills
  • increased knowledge and understanding of many areas of learning.

We can support Derbyshire schools, nurseries and groups wishing to find out more about Forest Schools and how it may benefit their young people.

We can also help identify suitable woodland sites and provide taster sessions for pupils and staff and mentor staff undertaking Forest Schools leader training.
