Apply for a school place

We deal with admissions for places at primary, infant, junior and secondary schools.

Decisions on applications for children starting reception classes and transferring to junior schools in September 2017 were emailed on 18 April 2017. You can view your allocation online:

If your child is due to start primary, junior or secondary education and you live in Derbyshire you should apply to us even if the school you want is located in the area of another council.

If you live outside Derbyshire you should apply through your home council (opens in a new window) even if you want to apply for a place at a Derbyshire school.

We have guides for parents available to help you apply for a secondary school place or to apply for a primary, infant or junior school place.

Changing school at other times

You may want to apply for your child to change schools other than when they are due to start primary, junior or secondary education. This could be because of a change of address.

If you want to apply for a place at a school in Derbyshire, you can do this online. We've added guidance in the changing schools section to help you through the process. We can't accept applications earlier than one term in advance of when the place is required.

If you want to apply for a place at a school in another council area (opens in a new window) you should contact the council where the school is located in the first instance.
