In order to meet the aim of reducing the risk of social exclusion of teenage parents a number of initiatives have been developed across Derbyshire to support teenage parents into employment, education and or training.
A referral pathway triggered by the Midwifery service will ensure that all pregnant young women are engaged by Connexions (opens in a new window) and if still of school age will receive a service from their Local Authority (LA).

We actively support schools to ensure pregnant students and young mothers of statutory school age are able to continue or re-engage with education (see Pre/Post 16 Education Referral Pathway).

Information sharing between the relevant organisations has been improved by the development of the Professional Pathway, a sign posting document for professionals, parents and young people regarding where to go if a young women thinks she is/might be pregnant (see Professional Pathways below).
Connexions (opens in a new window) has a Teenage Pregnancy Personal Advisor Co-ordinator who holds responsibility for meeting the education, employment and or training needs of teen parents.
Personal advisers will work with training providers and other professional services to develop personal development opportunities that meet the needs of teenage parents.
The Teenage Pregnancy Partnership works with a wide range of agencies developing teenage parenting groups and courses to ensure they are accessible and linked into educational opportunities.
