Inclusion (DCC)

We work closely with schools and other internal and external partners to reduce the need to permanently exclude young people from statutory educational provision.

There are three key areas that we are focusing on:

  • implementing the managed move protocol across the county, starting with the Chesterfield area
  • using data on fixed term exclusions as an 'early alert', in order to avoid permanent exclusion
  • reducing the use of 'informal exclusions' by schools as a behaviour management strategy.

Is there anything you provide especially for looked after children and young people?

We hope to ensure that those acting with parental responsibility are aware of their rights in terms of exclusion legislation and empower them to maintain appropriate dialogue with the school.

Information regarding exclusion processes and procedures are available for parents/carers below.

How are referrals made?

We encourage direct referrals from any avenue by telephone or letter.
