Support Centres
There are eight Support Centres. Four part-time working with key stage 2 and 3 children and young people who are in danger of being permanently excluded. And four full-time centres working mainly with key stage 3 and 4 children and young people who have been permanently excluded. What are Support Centres?
Support Centres are small schools (Pupil Referral Units).
Who do we work with?
Our full time centres support children and young people who have been permanently excluded from their schools at key stage 3 and 4. We work with you, your child and other professionals to identify the most appropriate provision for your child. The Service MAST team are responsible for placing key stage 3 children and young adults and also supporting your child back into mainstream education if this is felt to be most appropriate.
When do the Support Centres work with children and young people?
We will work with your child if they are permanently excluded at key stage 3 or 4 or if they leave the Local Authority, BESD Special School at the end of key stage 3.
Key Stage 3
We have three Support Centres that support permanently excluded children and young adults. One in Erewash, one in South Derbyshire and one in North East Derbyshire. Provision is full time and with support from you, the Service MAST team and other professionals we hope to re-integrate them back into a mainstream school when their needs have been addressed.
Key Stage 4
We have on Support Centre that supports permanently excluded children and young adults. The Support Centre works under the flexible arrangements at KS4 and therefore your child me be re-integrated back into a mainstream school, placed on a core site (one in High Peak and Derbyshire Dales, one in South Derbyshire and one in North East Derbyshire), attend a Further Education College or attend Work-Based Learning (or access a combination of these).
What will happen then?
If your child does not return to full time mainstream education they will remain at the Support Centre until the end of their statutory education.
How can I contact the Support Centres?
If your child is at key stage 3, you can contact the Service MAST team. If they are at key stage 4, you can contact the Head of Centre.
