Out of School Tuition Service

We work with individual children and young people who are unable to attend their school for specific reasons. Your child's school retains the responsibility for your child's education.

Who do we work with?

We work with children and young people of compulsory school age.

When does the Out of School Tuition Service work with children and young people?

We will work with your child if they are temporarily unable to attend school for any of the following reasons

  • medical reasons
  • mental health related problems
  • pregnancy

Or we may work with your child if he or she is referred to us by the Multi-Agency Support Team or Special Educational Needs department.

How does the Out of School Tuition Service work with the child or young person?

Out of School Tuition may do the following things:

  • Appoint a tutor for a time limited period and/or offer tuition via the Virtual Classroom
  • Provide up to three sessions of tuition each week
  • Provide tuition during school hours and school terms
  • Work with school to deliver an appropriate curriculum to assist a planned return to school

What will happen then?

We will expect your child to return to school as soon as it is appropriate to do so.

How can I contact the Out of School Tuition Service?

If you are worried about your child, discuss your concerns with school. They will know if they can help your child or whether they need to contact the Out of School Tuition or perhaps involve another service.
