Pilot project

We believe that the sooner children get access to early years’ education and care the better their chances in life will be. That’s why we’ve agreed to pilot a project that will give free education and care for two year olds who are:
  • Looked After Children

  • Children In Need

These are children who have undergone an assessment of need via social care, health, Children’s Centres or voluntary sector providers such as Women’s Refuge or Drugs and Alcohol support teams.

N.B. Children in the above categories MUST live in the bottom 30% of the most disadvantaged areas.

  • Children with Disabilities / Additional Needs

These children can live anywhere in Derbyshire.

  • Children with a deaf/hearing impairment, visual impairment or physical impairment where a member of the support services, health teams or social care are involved.

  • Children who already have a diagnosis.

  • Children who have complex or life limiting health needs.

  • Children who are showing or who are likely to show severe delay in more than one area.

  • Children who have speech, language or communication disorders which impact on other areas of their development.

Settings or parents are not able to refer for any of the pilot places. This always has to be done by a professional who is working with the family.
