Early education

Free nursery education.

We want all children to get the best possible start in life. Nursery education and childcare are an important part of the learning process and all three and four year old children in Derbyshire are entitled to 15 hours of free nursery education.

The free nursery education can be provided by:

  • private, voluntary or independent sector nurseries

  • nursery schools or nursery units in infant or primary schools

  • childminders registered to provide nursery education.
