About Newman, Sophia

Clip Clop Childcare is based in Duffield on a private 5-acre farm; animals and the outdoors form a big part of our special setting. We have chickens, horses and a dog which the children will have regular supervised access to (with parental consent). Children will have the opportunity to collect eggs in the morning, care for the horses over the fence and take the dog for long walks. Throughout the week, I will offer a variety of activities; some days we will go to local baby and toddler groups (where possible), other days we will play in our indoor or outdoor play area. When the weather is fine we will play team games on one of our private fields. Fresh food, prepared on site, will be offered every day, with a warm meal at lunchtime and healthy snacks morning and afternoon. I am a keen cook and love baking, so tasty homemade treats will be available. I can cater for most dietary restrictions, but please do let me know well in-advance. I have been a school teacher with fifteen years' experience. During this time, I have seen the value of clear boundaries and consistent approach. I am also well aware of the variety of learning styles children can display and using different methods to get the best out of them. The tracking of progress and the value of two-way communication between parents is something I have found an invaluable as well as inspirational tool. I have chosen to become a registered childminder to create a setting that provides a home-from-home feel and a safe, nurturing and exciting environment for your children to flourish and enjoy. As a mother I understand the importance of ensuring children are happy and settled. I am also a qualified Paediatric First Aider. I feel that routine is very important to children and can give them the security they need when away from their parents. Our day will be structured to provide familiarity to the children, including time for free play, structured activities, reading and quiet rest times. I have an excellent and confident knowledge of the seven stages of development of the EYFS and am able to select appropriate activities and opportunities for your child to develop. One area of learning that I feel very passionate about is 'active' learning. Children learn the best when they have the freedom to explore and move. To aid this learning opportunity I have become a member of the Forest Childcare Association which encourages learning outdoors. Being outdoors is a huge part of my everyday life and this is something that I offer as part of our outstanding experience.
