National Centre For Independent Living
The National Centre for Independent Living (NCIL) is an independent organisation mainly funded by the Department of Health and the Commission for Social Care Inspection to provide information and advice on personal assistance, independent living, direct payments and individual budgets. NCIL offers support to other organisations and Centres for Independent Living in developing new personal assistance/direct payment support services. NCIL does the following: − Information: providing information about personal assistance and personal assistance/direct payment support services, being an employer and community care issues − Consultancy: working with groups of disabled people and their local authorities to get personal assistance/direct payment services started or developed − Training: giving training to disabled people or to local authority staff, on various aspects of running a personal assistance/direct payment service (Training and Consultancy are normally delivered by freelance workers who also disabled) − Researching and developing best practice: including working in partnership with other organisations where appropriate
