Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice
Working in partnership benefits everyone. Our forums give parents and carers of children with special educational needs or disabilities an opportunity to give their views and influence decision makers. What we aim to do: Involve parents in service planning and decision making, so that services meet the needs of families with children with special needs and disabilities. Identify problems that families experience and use this information to influence service provision - we cannot help parents/carers with individual problems but can signpost to people who can. Ensure that parent's are able to participate fully and work alongside professionals to design, develop and improve services. Each forum discusses issues relevant to their community and invites representatives from health and local authorities to come and talk with parents. Issues and suggestions are taken back by the professionals to put forward change to better suit service users. Forums are held three times a year in Buxton/Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chesterfield, Belper, Ilkeston and Swadlincote. There are also county-wide events.
