Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network
Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network is a partnership of organisations providing befriending services to adults in Derbyshire. It exists to make sure that isolated and vulnerable adults in Derbyshire who could benefit from befriending support are able to do so, and to make sure that people who use befriending services can be confident that they are safe and well run. We define befriending as a service where one person (usually a volunteer) provides one-to-one support and encouragement to another person. The volunteer is someone other than a family member or friend and the relationship is set up and supported by an organisation. A number of different types of befriending are available, including: − One to one visits in the home environment − One to one sessions that include support to access an activity that is chosen by the person being befriended − Telephone befriending where the person receives a scheduled telephone call at a mutually convenient time − Group support for those with a shared need. Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network is managed by local charity South Derbyshire CVS on behalf of Derbyshire County Council which funds the initiative.
