Orthoptic Department - Chesterfield Royal Hospital Nhs Foundation Trust
We offer a support service to Opthalmology and specialise in squints and lazy eyes (ocular motility problems). The Orthoptist has been specifically trained to look for reduced vision in one or both eyes in young children. We can start checking levels of vision at around 2-3 months of age. Different tests are used for different age groups and abilities and will seem more like games to children. Will also check for squints (a misalignment of eyes) that can cause reduced vision. Treatment can include glasses or patches to the eye (using nice colourful eye patches). Any treatment plan is discussed with the parents and very often with the children themselves.
