About Derbyshire County Council Physical Impairment Support Service - Moving And Handling Service

The Moving and Handling Service to Derbyshire County Council Mainstream Schools and Settings is part of the Support Service for Physical Impairments (SSPI). We are based at the County Support Services Centre at Breadsall, Derby. Currently the service has 1.5 advisers, each with a designated case load but working with a degree of flexibility in order to provide a comprehensive and supportive service. We work to the Derbyshire Inter-Agency Code of Practice for Moving and Handling and in partnership with schools, colleges and other professionals to ensure pupils achieve their full potential. We provide: − Support to educational settings by raising awareness of the legal requirements and responsibilities for managing the moving and handling of children and young people. − Support to individual children and young people with physical impairments and complex handling needs, after referral from the specialist teachers within our service. − Risk assessments and written handling plans appropriate to the needs of individual children and young children, in conjunction with others − Regular reviews of handling plans as required − Advice on the use and purchase of moving and handling equipment
