New Group For Visually Impaired Young Adults
October saw the launch of a new young adults group which met for the first tome at Sight Support offices in Derby. The driving force behind this group is Steve Lomas, one of our visually impaired volunteers, who has been trying to make contact with younger visually impaired adults across the county for a few months now with a view to setting up one or more forums across the region. People from Derby, Belper, Ripley and other nearby towns attended this first forum. At our first meeting we had a chat and got to know each other whilst thinking about what we would do in the future. We decided to meet once per month to catch up and support each other, but also to try out activities. Ideas came thick and fast about what we might do and include things like starting an audio book club, going to audio described performances, small outings and much more. The target age for the group is somewhere between 19 and 40 although anyone who is a bit older than this and still young at heart is also welcome. If you are interested in joining in, please contact either Steve Lomas or Fiona Francis on 01332 292262 for more information.
