Dame Catherine Harpur's School (EY)
Dame Catherine Harpur's School Nursery is set in a rural environment on the edge of the village of Ticknall. The Nursery uses this to its full advantage. The local area supplies a wealth of interests and experiences to promote knowledge of the world and short walks, visits and trips are encouraged. The immediate outside environment consists of a hard surface play area, with plants, play-house, wheeled toys and a sandpit. Children are encouraged to care for and enhance the environment through gardening, science based, physical and creative activities. There is also a grassed area with climbing and balancing equipment and a willow tunnel for imaginative play. Many parents are attracted to this setting because of small numbers (8 per session max.). This enables all experiences, skills and knowledge to be explored and exploited by children and staff to a greater depth.
