Our Vision: LEARNING TOGETHER FOR PERSONAL SUCCESS We meet the needs of pupils with severe, profound and multiple and complex learning difficulties. About half of the schools pupils also have a diagnosis of autism. We have pupils from 3-19 years of age. Teaching and learning in the school is focused on developing pupils' independence, communication and social skills. Person centred approaches make sure learning is focussed on what each individual pupils need to learn, ensure that pupils are ready to learn physically and emotionally, and considers their strengths and hopes for the future. We use the local community extensively to practice independence and social skills through shopping, café visits, library visit, work experience and a range of sport and leisure activities. Pupils are offered a varied menu of learning activities including a range of residential trips, on site hydrotherapy pool, Forest School. The school offers a high level of family support with a dedicated worker providing workshops for parents, social opportunities for families, one to one support. We work closely with social services, health and other organisations to ensure that families are supported as much as possible. In Derbyshire all families are entitled to up to 570 hours per year of free 'early education' from the term following your child's third birthday.
