Our Get Active and Healthy courses:

  • promote a wide variety of ways to help you maintain your health whatever your age
  • focus on feeling good and living well.

Keep fit

Good physical health can form the basis of a varied and active lifestyle. Our range of keep fit programmes include movement to music to encourage co-ordination and balance. Sessions which include aerobic exercise will improve lung capacity, heart performance, body shaping and muscle tone. Embedding exercise into your daily life is very important. Our physical activity sessions are designed to be fun so that incorporating physical activity can become a rewarding part of your routine throughout your life. Keep fit programmes include Boxercise, Zumba®, Salsacise, Easifit as well as 'traditional' Keep Fit classes.

Relax

Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi improve flexibility, coordination and balance. They also promote a peaceful mind, relaxation and concentration. Learning how to relax can help with everyday stresses. Using aromatherapy and massage can promote the understanding of the importance of maintaining balance using the healing powers of essential oils and touch.

Get active and enjoy the outdoors

Active outdoor pursuits are great for energising and helping you learn more about your environment whilst getting healthy. There's a wealth of outdoor activities you can pursue including nature study, cycling, fishing and exploring public rights of way.

Eat well

Get creative in the kitchen through widening your knowledge of foods and understanding the nutritional benefits of what you eat. You can learn how to cook healthier meals from scratch or how to prepare a specialist meal for a celebratory occasion using alternative ingredients. Courses and workshops
on offer vary throughout the year, so there is always something new to try. Look out for courses such as meals for a week, authentic tapas, healthy lunch boxes, delicious vegetarian meals, Mediterranean cookery and Delicious Winter Warmers.

As part of the Heart of Derbyshire campaign, we offer free cookery courses where you can learn basic cookery skills, save money on your weekly food shop and discover how to make healthier food choices.
