Education & learning
“I saw the television campaign, ‘Get rid of your gremlins’ which aims to get adults back into learning and it struck a chord. ‘Great, this could be my route to being able to help my grandchildren with their homework’ I thought. That was nearly five years ago and I have never looked back. The support and encouragement have been fantastic. Now I am working towards the level 2 literacy qualification and earlier this year I won a BBC learner award. I am chuffed to bits!” Stephen Carr
“I had always wanted to do floristry and everything about this course has been superb especially the tuition. I have made some lovely new friends as well. Another bonus was that I booked online and won a free place*. I will be doing more courses and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone.” Barbara Gibbs
“I have worked for the Adult Community Education service for many years but I have also been one of their students, studying computing courses, customer care and maths and English. It has been a great experience and also helps with my day job. I understand the anxieties that potential students may be experiencing and I can just say, ‘Well, if I can do it so can you’, which seems to bolster their confidence!” Karren Bargh
“When I worked people thought I was too old to learn how to use a computer. Now at 82 it keeps your brain active and gives you a purpose to get up in the morning.” B Osborne
“I have made new friends, learnt how to use a computer. I am much more confident.” A Jordan
“I now have a place at College and am enjoying my studies in my chosen field.” P Moorcroft
“Adult education has helped me change direction in my life and has hopefully given me the skills and qualifications to gain meaningful and rewarding employment within education. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who was not sure about it being worthwhile – it is.” J Ley
“I had lost my confidence to go out but going to my class was a first step forward. My tutor was very tolerant and helpful and her patience gave me the confidence to carry on. Years ago we would never have had a chance to do anything and I am proud of what I’ve done.” S Coleman
“I have gained confidence and proved to myself that I can do things. I run a local voluntary group and I can now look up information on the Internet and pass on the knowledge to the children.” C Owen
“Having been diagnosed as dyslexic I wanted to prove I could be successful given the right support.” F Beardmore
“I joined Adult Community Education because I wanted to give my children a better start in life than I had as regards education.” S Smith
