Family learning courses

For many parents and carers family learning is the first step back into learning.

Family learning 3923

Our courses can help you to understand what your children are doing in school so that you can support them.

You can also gain new ideas for working with your children together at home.

We have expert family learning tutors across the county and many of our family learning courses are free.

You can choose from a wide range of courses including:

  • Courses for parents and carers in managing behaviour, parenting skills and understanding literacy and numeracy in school aged seven  to 16.

  • Courses for adults and children to learn new skills together. We offer a variety of subjects such as languages, computing, sports, health, safety, arts and crafts.

  • Courses for adults and children aged between three and five in arts and crafts, healthy eating and learning through play.

  • Specialist courses like British Sign Language.

We also offer family learning fun days across the county where families can take part in short workshop activities.

Family learning can lead to you gaining new skills which will improve your employment prospects. You can progress onto qualifications in the childcare sector such as the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ level three) in Children’s Care Learning and Development.

Completing the Family Learning Diary can lead to an introductory qualification in childcare. Find out more about working in childcare (opens in a new window).

You may want to continue doing a specific subject for yourself such as art, craft, computing or languages.

You are advised to enrol early to avoid disappointment. To find out what's on offer please call at your local adult community education centre or library, visit the brochures page and download one from this site or Call Derbyshire on 08 456 058 058.
