Health and Safety

Health and safety information for Cromford Wharf Shed.

Cromford Wharf Shed viewed from across the canal

Smoking

The smoking area allocated at the Wharf Shed is to the rear of the building or in wet weather under the canopy.
We ask that group leaders ensure that groups dispose of cigarettes etc. into the bins making sure that they are extinguished and are not thrown into the canal or dropped on the floor area under the canopy.

Litter

Please ensure that you and your group do not throw litter or dispose of food into the canal.
The canal is designated as a site of special scientific interest and is a fragile environment both for plants and wildlife.
There are adequate litter bins on and around the site for your use.

Security

Please ensure that the Wharf Shed is locked securely whenever you leave the building.
It is also advisable to ensure that the heating switch for the drying room is switched off if you are not going to be in the building for any length of time.
You are provided with keys to lock individual bedrooms as well as the kitchen (please see key list).
Please ensure that the barges tied to the building are not played upon or tampered with.

Fire

The building has been equipped with a brand new fire detection system.
In the event the alarm sounds, please evacuate the building following the emergency procedures provided and contact the emergency services.

Please Note: The alarm is extremely sensitive and the use of deodorants, smoking or tampering with the fire detection points will activate the alarm and indicate which room has been triggered.
