Achieving the vision

Lea Green works in partnership with a range of agencies and organisations to contribute to the development of children and younger adults.

We also work to create programmes that use a range of carefully structured activities that target the following key outcomes:

  1. Be healthy − participation in outdoor education programmes can help to counter obesity and contributes to physical fitness, mental health and emotional stability.

  2. Stay safe − young people participating in challenging activities in an uncertain environment are given the opportunity to develop transferable risk awareness.
Risk taking is a natural part of the growing process and helping young people to recognise risk and to make sound judgements can clearly contribute to reductions in accidents and improved decision making skills.

  3. Enjoy and achieve − achievement from tackling adventurous activities is enormously powerful in developing self-esteem.
Fun and enjoyment is one of the fundamental reasons young people choose to participate.
For many young people who are not academically focused, achievement in the outdoors can mark their successes and encourage them to develop their self-worth.

  4. Make a positive contribution − the impact of outdoor education can have a profound, positive influence on numerous societal issues including social inclusion, understanding of other cultures, the respect agenda and diversion from crime.
Programmes at Lea Green provide opportunities for young people to take on leadership roles and work with others.

  5. Achieve economic wellbeing − enhanced personal attributes such as a sense of purpose, personal drive, increased self-esteem and improved inter-personal skills clearly contribute to employability.  Employers say loud and clear that they need these qualities.
