14−19 education and training

We aim to provide world class educational opportunities for all young people to help them achieve success.

We have a duty to obtain enough appropriate education and training opportunities to meet the reasonable needs of all young people aged 14-19 across Derbyshire.

This includes

  • young people aged 14-16 of compulsory school age

  • young people over compulsory school age but under 19

  • those who are aged 19 to 25 with a learning difficulty and/or disability

  • young people subject to youth detention

In deciding what education or training is right for our young people, we must take into account the quality of that education and training, and we will challenge where this is poor or inadequate.

We work with schools, colleges, training providers and partner agencies to achieve this through Learning Communities and the 14-19 Partnership.

Learning Communities

Learning Communities work together on the delivery of 14-19 education and training so that expertise is shared and that the most effective use is made of available money and staff.

14-19 Strategy Group

The 14-19 Strategy Group oversees all developments relating to 14-19 education and training provision. Through a sub group structure, it has developed curriculum strategies for Apprenticeships and Foundation Learning.
