Our principles

In developing the 2006-09 Sustainable Community Strategy we have agreed a number of 'partnership principles', which we will be following and which will apply to all identified activities.

These principles are:

Understanding Communities

We must have a comprehensive knowledge of the needs of communities across Derbyshire (based on a range of research, consultation and performance data) in order to deliver the right services, at the right time, to the right people. Giving local people the opportunity to shape decisions which affect their lives, responding appropriately to their views and promoting our services in a way everyone can understand is vital to improving quality of life.

Enabling Equality

No-one should feel that their opportunities in life are limited due to their age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or where they live for example. Eliminating all forms of discrimination is integral to improving quality of life. Everyone should be treated with fairness and respect and have equality of access to life opportunities, employment and services which are designed to meet individual needs.

Looking at the Bigger Picture

Every issue contained within this strategy is linked to another. When planning an activity we must consider the potential implications( both positive and negative) for other objectives We must adopt a long term, sustainable and integrated approach which considers the potential impact of everyday decisions on people and places beyond our country and our lifetime.

Working Together to Achieve More
