Tackling crime, improving our health and our environment are the key aims of the Derbyshire Sustainable Community Strategy.
The strategy provides the blueprint for joint action by almost all the public, private and voluntary organisations in the county known as the Derbyshire Partnership Forum.
To make sure we’re all working to the same end, the partnership has identified key areas where we can work together to improve services. By joining forces on common priorities for change and action, we believe we stand a better chance of improving the economic, social and environmental well-being of our county.
As well as highlighting priority areas for improvement, the strategy sets stiff targets to make life better for everyone who lives, works or visits Derbyshire.
These are set out under four themes which mirror the Derbyshire Local Area Agreement (LAA).
Safer and Stronger Communities
Children and Young People
Healthier Communities and Older People
Sustainable Communities
The priorities set out in the Derbyshire Sustainable Community Strategy reflect local concerns and are the result of extensive consultation. It means that the Derbyshire Partnership Forum is working closely to ensure big improvements in four key areas.
Reducing anti-social behaviour- by reducing crime, drug misuse and anti-social behaviour as well as the public's perception of these activities.
Engaging young people in positive activities- by promoting their safety and well-being, providing better out of school facilities for children and young people and increasing their involvement in sport and physical activity.
Tackling obesity- by increasing participation in active sport, improving access to health information and providing better guidance on achieving a healthier lifestyle.
Ensuring a clean and attractive environment- by increasing recycling rates, reducing litter and fly tipping and improving our parks and open spaces.
It’s a big agenda that is being delivered by the Partnership. The Derbyshire Sustainable Community Strategy is a flexible, working paper that will be reviewed and updated when needed to respond to local needs and concerns.
