Safer Communities is one of the four sections of the Derbyshire Local Area Agreement used to deliver outcomes that are the key issues for Derbyshire.
The Safer Derbyshire partnership is well established at county level and comprises the Youth Offending Service, the Drug and Alcohol Action Team, the County Council Community Safety Unit, the Research and Information Analysts, the Police Crime Prevention Design Adviser, a Police Inspector and a Fire Officer.
The partnership supports the work of the district community safety partnerships. This partnership helped to quickly establish arrangements to manage the Safer Communities section of the Local Area Agreement.
The Local Area Agreement (LAA) targets in the Safer Communities section are designed to tackle the highest priority issues for Derbyshire. Underneath these the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships, Youth Offending Service and the Drug and Alcohol Action Team have specific targets of their own to directly deliver the overall LAA targets.
The Safer Derbyshire approach and the priorities identified, support the findings of consultation with local residents undertaken in the development of the Derbyshire Community Strategy 2006-09. The concept of safer neighbourhoods is strongly supported and local people wish to se more visible policing and effective measures to tackle anti-social behaviour.
