We're to set up Value for Money Board
Our Cabinet today agreed to set up a Value for Money Board (Thursday 7 December 2017).
The board will scrutinise our contracts to make sure they are giving value for money. The board will include members of the business community and voluntary sector.
They will be joined by our Cabinet Member for Council Services, Councillor Angelique Foster and the Strategic Director for Commissioning, Communities and Policy, Emma Alexander.
Councillor Foster said:
"Making sure that the council works as efficiently and effectively as possible is one our key aims, and the Value for Money Board will help to ensure that we do just that.
"By seeking advice and help from those in the business community and the voluntary sector we will be able to make sure we are buying what we need, as efficiently and effectively as possible."
During 2016/17 we awarded over 250 contracts to third-party organisations at a total value of more than £200m.
The Value for Money Board will meet quarterly and will be supported by officers who are specialists in procurement, contract management, risk management and contract law.
The objectives of the board are to:
- provide leadership to ensure that our contracts are well managed and deliver value for money
- to review our key contracts and provide recommendations to ensure they are providing value for money
- support best practice approaches to good contract and supplier relationship management
- take note of and review if required contracts requiring renewal or extension to ensure that value for money is maintained.
