Bus services trial extended between Alfreton and Eastwood
Bus services between Alfreton and Eastwood have had their trial service extended thanks to Derbyshire County Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.
The Trent Barton 'rainbow 1' route which goes through Somercotes will retain its Monday to Saturday evening and Sunday services after its trial was extended from July until 31 March 2015.
This service was originally withdrawn in April 2011 but brought back after Derbyshire County Council and Nottinghamshire County Council agreed to jointly fund it.
Councillor Paul Smith, Derbyshire County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Health and Communities said:
I'm pleased that we have been able to extend this service with Nottinghamshire County Council to help meet the needs of the local residents who use it.
"We are in a difficult financial position and so can only extend the trial until March and we hope that a bus company will take it on after without council funding."
The services will be monitored until the contract runs out when a decision will be made on extending them depending on passenger numbers and budget of both councils.
The bus route provides hourly services with alternate journeys running through Leabrooks or Pye Bridge and on Sundays most journeys continue to Nottingham allowing passengers to stay on without changing buses.
The services that are being funded through this trial are:
