Parents notified about secondary places
Parents across the county will hear about their child's secondary school place on Monday − and for the majority of families it is good news.
We will make offers of places to 7,721 Derbyshire children on March 3.
Overall 98.8% have been offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.
Of those who applied by the closing date, 94.2% have been offered their first choice school.
This is the ninth year we have acted as a central clearing house to deal with admissions to all secondary schools, including voluntary aided, academy and foundation schools.
Our deputy cabinet member for children and young people Councillor Jim Coyle said:
It's a time consuming and difficult job for our staff to process all these applications and balance the requests of parents with the places available at each school.
"I'm pleased the requests of the vast majority of parents have been met."
The small number of parents who have not got a place at their preferred school have the right of appeal to an independent panel. Information of how to appeal is available online by visiting www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions
Alternatively parents can get information from the admissions team on 01629 537479.
This year, a record 99.4% of parents made their secondary application online.
This is up from 98.5% last year. Only 41 parents completed a paper form.
Parents will receive an email about their child's place after 9.30am on 3 March, if they provided an email address.
Alternatively they can log on to our website after 9.30am at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions using their user ID and log in to get the result.
Those parents who did not provide an email address, or who applied on paper, will receive a letter posted second class on Monday, March 3.
Parents who have applied for places at infant, primary or junior schools for their child will be notified on Weds, 16 April.
Anyone who has not already made an application should do so urgently by using the late application facility at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions or ring Call Derbyshire on 01629 533190 between 8am and 8pm on weekdays and 9.30am and 4pm on Saturday.
Or ring the admissions team on 01629 537479 to request a paper application form.
Councillor Coyle added:
We are grateful to parents for using the online application system and I'd like to thank them for doing that. But we know some parents will be disappointed they didn't get their first choice."
