Counterfeit goods seized at car boot sale
Counterfeit goods worth thousands of pounds have been seized by trading standards officers in a car boot sale raid.
Derbyshire County Council trading standards officers, backed by officers from Derbyshire police, visited the Twin Oaks car boot sale on Saturday (25 June) and seized goods worth over £80,000.
The haul included DVDs, CDs and MP3 discs as well as perfume, clothing and cigarettes.
Pornography DVDs were also seized in the raid at Twin Oaks, which is off junction 29 of the M1, and police impounded a van and a car belonging to traders.
In total five traders were questioned and investigations are on-going by police and trading standards officers.
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration Councillor Kevin Parkinson said: "We do all we can to protect consumers from unscrupulous traders and I hope this raid will serve as a warning to anyone involved in the sale of counterfeit goods that we will not tolerate it.
"We thank the police for their support in this operation and hope that this will send out a strong message to traders willing to break the law that we will find them out."
The following items, quantities seized and estimated genuine retail price are detailed below.
− DVDs − 4,137 - (£41,370)
− CDs − 747 − (£6,723)
− MP3 discs − 101 discs containing up to 30 individual CDs − (£27,270)
− Pornography DVDs − 151 − (£3,020)
− Cigarettes − 2,000 − (£600)
− Clothing − 125 − (£3,750)
− Perfume − 20 − (£600)
Total - £83,333.
County council trading standards officers carry out regular operations at car boot sales across the county to track down traders selling counterfeit goods and have made a number of successful prosecutions.
