Improvement and Scrutiny Committee meetings

The council's Improvement and Scrutiny committees meet regularly, devising their own work programmes.

The committees functions include:

  • to examine current council policies to see if improvements can be made and to help shape new policies for the cabinet to consider
  • the mechanism for the committee to scrutinise decisions of the executive. Four councillors, including two councillors from at least two political groups must agree to "call in" the decision within five days. The committee will then look at it and refer it back to the executive if necessary.
