Future of youth activities in Derbyshire

Dates
09 January 2012 to 19 March 2012
Stage
Closed
Topic
Children and Young People

Aim

The move is aimed at giving more young people greater opportunities to take part in youth activities when and where they want them.

It could mean voluntary and community groups play an even bigger part in delivering activities for 13- to 19-year-olds.

Under the proposals we would:

  • continue to provide qualified youth workers to support vulnerable young people and families facing difficulties

  • no longer provide front-line activities for teenagers including youth clubs and its mobile service - currently we provide around 30 per cent of youth activities in Derbyshire

  • set up a Youth Activities Grants scheme to support new projects, voluntary, community and independent groups

  • carry out a review of its youth centres to transfer or dispose of the buildings.

The online questionnaire can be found in the how to participate section of this web page. A paper copy of the questionnaire can be found in the supporting documents section, below.

Consultation events

We are also holding a series of events around the county in January and February as part of our consultation on the proposed changed. Pre-booking for these events is essential.

To find out when and where the events are being held as well as how to book please see the future of youth activities consultation event document in the supporting documents section of this web page.

Scrutiny committee meeting

A public meeting of the Improvement and Scrutiny People Committee will be held on Saturday 18 February between 10am and 12.30pm in the Members' Room at County Hall, Matlock.

The purpose of this meeting is to listen to views from supporters and dissenters as well as other interested parties on the current proposals to change the council's provision of youth activities. This is separate from the stakeholder consultation meetings being held by the Children and Younger Adults department and aims to allow the scrutiny committee to gather evidence before responding to the proposals

Councillor Barry Lewis will be in attendance and will give an overview of the changes followed by some public questions and a discussion amongst participants.

If you would like to attend this meeting it is essential that you inform us by email at scrutiny@derbyshire.gov.uk.

This consultation closed on March 18. Please find further information about the consultation events that took place, and the information referred to at these events, in the 'supporting documents' section of this page.
