What this consultation is about
We currently operate 4 day centres at Alderbrook in Chinley, Parkwood Centre in Alfreton, No Limits in Chesterfield and Outlook in Long Eaton. Our short breaks are currently provided at Newhall Bungalow in Swadlincote, Petersham Centre in Long Eaton, Morewood Centre in Alfreton, Victoria Street, Brimington - with Hadfield Road, Glossop remaining unused since 2020 due to its lack of suitability.
We're consulting on 2 proposals for a redesign of each of these services.
Day opportunities
Option 1
Discontinue the use of Alderbrook Centre, Chinley; No Limits, Chesterfield; Outlook, Long Eaton and Parkwood Centre, Alfreton. This proposed option would recognise the growth and success of Community Connectors and would continue to support people to access alternative day opportunities in their local community.
Option 2
To retain No Limits, Chesterfield and Outlook, Long Eaton but discontinue the use of Parkwood Centre which needs repairs costing around £1.7 million and Alderbrook which currently only supports 9 people who travel on average 16.5 miles to attend.
Short breaks
Option 1
Discontinue the use of Petersham Centre, Long Eaton; Victoria Street, Brimington and Newhall Bungalow, Swadlincote.
Dispose of Hadfield Road, Glossop as this service has not been open since 2020.
Retain Morewood Centre, Alfreton, for planned short breaks only with the capacity to support 100 people for 36 days each a year. This proposed option would enable staff to support people with learning disabilities and / or autism and their families with long term and contingency planning, for example by working towards independent living skills.
Option 2
Retain Morewood Centre and Newhall Bungalow for planned short breaks. Under the proposals these would have surplus beds while meeting the current demand of people accessing short breaks with an ability to respond to future demand.
Discontinue the use of Petersham Centre, Long Eaton; Victoria Street, Brimington and Hadfield Road, Glossop
