Derbyshire's Equality and Diversity Policy

Our policy is to provide services fairly to everyone and to give equal treatment to our staff and service users. This is regardless of their age, disability, HIV status, marital status, race, religion, sex, sexuality or national origin.

The policy promotes the elimination of discrimination and complies with the:

  • Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (as amended)

  • Race Relations Act 1976 (as amended)

  • Human Rights Act 1998

  • Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended)

  • Equality Act 2006

  • together with relevant Codes of Practice and European Directives.

Specific policy statements have been made in respect of disability, sex, race, age, religion and belief and sexuality equality. The policy also outlines our view of all forms of harassment and refers to specific procedures for staff.

All councillors, staff and those acting on behalf of the council are responsible for implementing the policy. They also have a continuing duty to challenge all forms of discrimination.

We are presently finalising revisions to our policy and will publish it here once it has been agreed by the council.
