Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month 2008

February is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month. This is opportunity to highlight and celebrate the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

We will be recognising the month across the county on the theme of celebrating diversity, challenging discrimination.

There will be events in libraries by prominent Derbyshire author Narvel Annable and Derbyshire’s Poet Laureate River Wolton and displays highlighting the good, the bad and the ugly that has been encountered throughout LGBT history.

The good will show the contribution a host of LGBT people have made to society ranging from famous historical figures to modern day figures such as actor John Barrowman and Big Brother’s Nadia Almada.

The bad shows the abuse that people can often still face and the ugly charts the dark and often brutal history of suppression that has seen people imprisoned, persecuted and even killed for who they are.
