Flying the Flag for IDAHO Day

We will be raising awareness of International Day Against Homophobia in Derbyshire by flying the rainbow flag at County Hall during May.

IDAHO Day was founded on 17 May 2005, to recognise the day in 1990 that the World Health Organisation finally removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders.

The event aims to raise awareness of homophobic issues that are negatively impacting on people’s lives and to also showcase success stories where a positive change has been achieved.

Our employee network group’s recent work during Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender History month highlighted the prevalence of homophobic bullying – that included examples from the classroom to the football pitch.

Working alongside us the Safer Derbyshire Team provide advice for Staying Safe and reporting instances of homophobic abuse and other hate crimes.

While in schools specific guidelines have been issued to help teachers challenge bullying.
