Consultation about a new national disability strategy
The Office for Disability Issues, Department for Work and Pensions, is undertaking a national consultation that seeks the views of disabled people, their families and disability organisations about what should be included in a new national disability strategy.
The 'Fullfilling Potential' consultation document was published on 1 December 2011.
There are three main areas for discussion:
Realising aspirations - in relation to work, education and independent living.
Individual control - how money received because of disability is spent; helping people set up their own services; better access to universal services.
Changing attitudes - addressing discrimination and promoting positive attitudes.
If you would like to organise a group event to discuss the strategy a guide is available in the related documents section on this page.
You can take part in the consultation on the DWP website (opens in a new window).
The closing date for the consultation is 9 March 2012.
