Alan Charles

I was first elected onto the council in 1993 where I am currently Shadow Cabinet Member for Education and a member of its Education and Young People's Improvement and Scrutiny Committee.
I'm also on the council's Investment Committee and represent it on the Derbyshire Police Authority and the Local Government Association.
For a decade prior to June 2009 I was the council's lead member for education, and I retain my passion to ensure every Derbyshire young person receives the highest quality education possible and that our most vulnerable children are not disadvantaged.
Locally I'm the Chair of Killamarsh Parish Council and a member of the Killamarsh Community Trust. I'm also a member of the Veolia (formerly SARP) liaison committee, which ensures the improvements at this site gained by the community are maintained.
I'm married to Diane with two daughters and two grandchildren, and welcome your views on how we can improve Killamarsh and Derbyshire, or on any other matter.

I am always keen to get feedback, good or bad, on county council related matters so you can help shape what we do and how we do it, both now and in years to come. Young people can also make their voice heard through the council's b_line (opens in a new window) site or by emailing youngpeople@derbyshire.gov.uk
You can also come along to any of Derbyshire County Council meetings which take place six times a year, usually on a Wednesday afternoon, at its headquarters in Matlock. You can either just watch the proceedings or you can ask a question.
