Members Allowances Scheme

County councillors are able to claim various allowances in connection with carrying out their duties as councillors.

The current scheme of allowances is attached together with the annual statements of allowances paid to members.

Over the past years the allowances have been altered, moving away from attendance driven allowances to a basic allowance to cover most member duties. This change is in response to Government legalisation.

We have a legal obligation to publish an annual statement of basic/special responsibility/attendance allowances paid to the members during a financial year. In 2002/03 this obligation was widened to include travel and subsistence allowances.
