Garry Purdy

Garry Purdy

I was elected in June 2009 and feel extremely honoured and privileged to serve as a county councillor and utilise all my experiences for the benefit of the electorate.

As well as being Vice-chairman of the two above committees I am also a member of the Community, Culture and the Environment Improvement and Scrutiny Committee, the Regulatory Licensing and Appeals Committee and represent the council on the Peak District National Park Authority and the Joint Advisory group.

Now retired, I came to Matlock in 1970 as a police officer and first became involved in community affairs as a committee member on the Matlock Swimming Club then as Vice-chair of Highfields Upper Parent Teacher Association.

While in the rank of Inspector I served on the committee that saw the inception of the Derbyshire Dales Victim Support Service and, with my wife, I have become closely involved with the care of the young and the elderly.

I am always keen to get feedback, good or bad, on county council related matters so you can help shape what we do and how we do it, both now and in years to come. Young people can also make their voice heard through the council's b_line (opens in a new window) site or by emailing youngpeople@derbyshire.gov.uk

You can also come along to any of Derbyshire County Council meetings which take place six times a year, usually on a Wednesday afternoon, at its headquarters in Matlock. You can either just watch the proceedings or you can ask a question. For details of how to do this please read our openness at meetings page.

I am more than happy to meet people in the Community, where I have been kindly offered facilities at Waltham House in Wirksworth.

As my diary is extremely busy, I would ask that you contact me first so we can arrange a mutual time and date for a meeting in comfortable surroundings but with the added security, if desired, of some privacy.
