Your council
I was first elected onto the council in 1993 and led it for eight years until June 2009, during which time it gained national recognition as an excellent authority.
My over-riding concern has always been to make life better for those who live here, especially those who may need a little extra help. Nothing matters more than having a job and having the skills to get a job.
That’s why I’m proud to have been at the forefront of the Markham Vale business and industrial development, a multi-million pound regeneration scheme that’s being created in partnership with others off junction 29A of the M1 motorway.
It’s set to bring thousands of jobs to this former mining area to create a prosperous local economy for the benefit of current and future generations.
I’m currently Shadow Cabinet Member for Finance and Management as well as a member of the council’s Finance, Management and Regeneration Improvement and Scrutiny Committee. I’m also on its Pensions Committee and represent the council on the Derbyshire Police Authority.
