Your council
I was elected to the council in June 2009 and as well as being Chairman of the Audit Committee, I am a member of the council’s Finance, Management and Regeneration Improvement and Scrutiny Committee.
I live with my wife Ann in Turnditch and I have lived in the Belper area practically all my life. I also represent Duffield on Amber Valley Borough Council, where I am Leader.
I am hoping I can bring my business skills as a retired company director in the manufacturing industry to help the council meet its priority of providing efficient and value-for-money services.
My full-time occupation now, though, is in ‘making a difference’ as sometimes it is possible as a councillor to make a big difference to people’s lives, which is what makes the job so rewarding.

I am always keen to get feedback, good or bad, on county council related matters so you can help shape what we do and how we do it, both now and in years to come. Young people can also make their voice heard through the council’s b_line (opens in a new window) site or by emailing youngpeople@derbyshire.gov.uk
You can also come along to any of Derbyshire County Council meetings which take place six times a year, usually on a Wednesday afternoon, at its headquarters in Matlock. You can either just watch the proceedings or you can ask a question.
I represent the council on a number of outside organisations or bodies
